Oakes Consulting (UK) was formed as a concept in 1999 and became a limited company in January 2005. Its mission was to deliver expert consulting skills to customers of Sun Microsystems and its partners.
We covered everything from system builds (Sun Enterprise server range), highly available cluster builds, zones and LDOMS (Logical Domains), and administration of all systems up to the high end range including the E10K, F15K and F25K models. In 2010 Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle; since this time, there has sadly been a decline in the use of SPARC technology and a general shift in the market towards Linux and x86 based computing platforms.
Following the acquisition of Sun by Oracle, we widened our remit to cover all enterprise systems (such as RHEL, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Microsoft), with a greater focus on Unix and open-source technologies. In 2011, Oakes Consulting morphed into a new company called Nyx Technologies Limited.
